THE EPIOUX ESTATE
THE EPIOUX ESTATE PRESENTATION SHEET
The EPIOUX
Estate
Spread over more than 1,700 hectares between Chiny and Herbeumont, the Epioux Estate is an exceptional natural site, comprising five ponds and a variety of woodlands. There is also a castle constructed in 1650 by the forge builder that once operated there at full capacity. This castle, occupied for a time by Pierre-Napoléon Bonaparte, the emperor's nephew, is now abandoned.
This site, owned by the Mons CPAS, which inherited it at the end of the 19th century, is crisscrossed by numerous walks and is therefore accessible to the public. The National Park is planning to renovate the Guard House, another building on the Estate, so that it can host green classes and educate younger children about protecting biodiversity.
