EDUCATION AND AWARENESS RAISING

Helping visitors and local residents of all ages to understand that the biodiversity found in the Semois Valley is exceptional but fragile is a task that is close to our hearts, and one that involves a wide range of initiatives.

Awareness raising and education about NATURE

OUTILS

Providing the region with EDUCATIONAL tools on the National Park's natural heritage

Nature in the Semois Valley is superb and highly diverse. It is also fragile. In order to ensure that everyone, visitors and local residents alike, is aware of this and helps to protect this exceptional natural heritage, the National Park is carrying out a series of awareness raising initiatives.

Creating an IMMERSIVE animation tool at the gateways

At the eight gateways to the Park, we will soon be offering a virtual reality experience that will enable everyone to discover the area in a spectacular and immersive way.

Objectives : installing a virtual reality system at each gateway to the Park.

Improving the range of themed educational TRAILS

A number of educational trails already exist in the National Park. However, some of them are little known, old or unsuitable for certain audiences, such as children. So, we want to expand the existing range of activities to fulfil our mission to raise awareness and provide education about nature.

Objectives : create 4 new educational routes and improve 4 others; ensure that 4 of these routes are accessible to people with special needs and that one route is suitable for young children.

Communicating about the FOREST, its management and sustainable use

Using the forest does not necessarily mean degrading it. However, the general public is sometimes unaware of this. So, it is necessary to increase awareness and provide better information on the purpose and objectives of forest management and forestry operations.

Objectives : create 10 double-sided panels for each municipality of the National Park; organise one "forest" excursion for each pilot school in the region; create a dedicated educational trail.

Developing the National Park's EDUCATIONAL mission

Today's children are well aware of the specific natural features of our environment and the impact of human activities on natural spaces, so they will be actively involved in nature preservation in the future. It is therefore essential to inform them about these issues.

Objectives : ensure that 800 young people take part in an educational trail; create and distribute a series of educational packs based on these trails.

Creating and leading a CITIZENS' Committee

The Semois Valley National Park project was developed collaboratively. We want this co-construction dimension to continue, by setting up various initiatives.

CITOYENS

Creating and leading a Citizens' COMMITTEE

It is essential to involve local residents, particularly young people, in the initiatives and decisions of the National Park. The creation of a Citizens' Committee will help to achieve this.

Objectives : create and lead a Citizens' Committee, actively involved in the initiatives and decisions of the National Park.

Creating a good
user
CHARTER

Many people visit the natural spaces of the National Park. Far from wanting to restrict access to these areas, we want to ensure that users of these natural spaces are made aware of the need to respect their exceptional biodiversity.

Objectives : create a good user charter, displayed in strategic locations and also shared via digital channels.

Supporting the EVENTS sector to make it more sustainable

Many events take place in the National Park. While many organisers are already adopting a sustainable approach, it is possible to go further and help them limit their impact on the environment as much as possible.

Objectives : the aim is to ensure that 60% of the events organised incorporate a sustainable approach.
