OUR INITIATIVES
The Semois Valley National Park INITIATIVES
Water, biodiversity, forests, heritage, awareness-raising, mobility, etc. The Semois Valley National Park initiatives are aimed at achieving our two main objectives: protect nature and develop sustainable tourism in our region.

PROTECTING
OUR NATURAL HERITAGE
Protecting our natural heritage
The boundaries of the Semois Valley National Park have been drawn taking into account the various rich environments found there. Protecting this exceptional natural environment, through a wide range of initiatives, is one of our main missions.

DEVELOPING SUSTAINABLE FORESTRY PRACTICES
Developing sustainable forestry practices
Facing the effects of climate change on forests, developing more ethical hunting methods, facilitating the natural regeneration of forest plots, etc. The National Park's main mission is to preserve the forests that cover 86% of the region.

PRESERVING THE LANDSCAPE, CULTURAL AND BUILT HERITAGE
Preserving the landscape, cultural and built heritage
The Semois Valley is famous for its spectacular viewpoints. But the region also has a long and rich history, as evidenced by the many historical and archaeological sites that are found here. Small popular heritage and cultural heritage (tales and legends, tobacco growing) are also part of the region's identity. These are all things that the National Park wants to showcase and preserve.

BETTER MANAGING MOBILITY TO AND WITHIN THE NATIONAL PARK
Better managing mobility to and within the National Park
Enabling everyone to reach the National Park easily, while better managing visitor flows to limit the impact of tourist activity on the local population and the environment: this, in a few words, is the aim of the mobility initiatives developed within the National Park.

DEVELOPING SUSTAINABLE TOURISM
Developing sustainable tourism
The Semois Valley has been a tourist destination for decades. The National Park's aim is to offer activities and develop infrastructures that will limit the impact on nature and the local population, while raising awareness among tourists of the importance of preserving these rare environments.

EDUCATING PEOPLE ABOUT NATURE
Educating people about nature
The National Park works with local schools to teach youngsters about protecting nature and heritage. It is also putting in place a series of tools and infrastructures to raise awareness about these vital issues among as many people as possible.
