LE TOMBEAU DU GÉANT (THE GIANT'S TOMB)

PRESENTATION SHEET OF THE GIANT'S TOMB

The GIANT'S

Tomb

Episode 8 + génériqueLes oiseaux de la Semois
00:00 / 03:40

The Giant's Tomb, probably one of Belgium's best-known landscapes, is a wooded hill nestled in a meander of the Semois. It can be admired from the village of Botassart (Bouillon), where there is a magnificent and easily accessible viewpoint. The Giant's Tomb is part of Wallonia's exceptional heritage.

The name of this site is linked to an episode in the Gallic War, recounted more or less accurately by Julius Caesar in the book of the same name. Following the Battle of the Sabis (also known - probably incorrectly - as the Battle of the Sambre), a large Treveri warrior is said to have thrown himself off the nearby Rocher des Gattes to escape imprisonment by the Romans and was buried on the hill.
